I Lost 65 pounds in Less than a Year and You Won't Believe what Else During My First Year at WOTOWN

Charli is a staple in our 5:30 am class at WOTOWN. I remember when she booked her No Sweat Intro and told me why she was wanting to take back control of her health. When we started her beginner's class I could tell that she was motivated and determined. She was extremely fiery and during workouts and would get frustrated when she couldn't do a movement to her liking. The great thing about Charli is that she always showed up...always. When we first opened the gym there were nights when there was only one person in the 6:45 pm class...it was Charli. She has overcome so many odds in her first year at the gym (including a global pandemic) all while working a full time job, being a wife, and a mom of three.

We'll let her take it from here:

I started CrossFit Wotown as someone desperate to be happy with themselves again. I stand at 5'0" and I'm a woman, that gives me very few calories to play with. I have polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) which makes me more likely to be insulin dependent and prone to weight gain (and infertility). I have hypothyroidism which slows my metabolism down. I was a full time working mother of 3 who took care of everyone but myself and I had my pocketful of excuses...but it was starting to catch up with me. I remember taking my 4 month old to her check up and driving past the Wotown banner. It took me a week to muster up the courage to e-mail Tres and I'm so glad that I did. I convinced myself if I could just show up, I'd make progress. Just show up. Don't let the workout, the scaling, the time, or my intimidation sway me. Just. Show. Up. Almost a year has passed. I've lost 65lbs, I'm comfortable in my own body again, and made some great friends along the way. My class time has become my hour I dedicate to myself and I look forward to it every morning. I have gone from being gassed in the warm ups to RX'ing some workouts. There were days I had to sit down to fold laundry and now I can knock out a double under or two. I was well on my way to my 100lbs in 1 year goal until...I got a surprise. I learned that the weight loss concurrently resolved my PCOS when we recently found out we were pregnant with our 4th (and final) baby. For now, per doctor's orders, I'm taking a few months off until my son arrives. For the first time, I did not have to have a fertility procedure! I can't wait to get back at it in the gym. If you ever need a friend, you can find me at the 5:30AM class and I'd love to meet you! Next year will hold even bigger things!

Charli's story is the reason we opened CrossFit WOTOWN a year ago. Our mission is to lead 1,000 families in the North Jefferson area to healthy lives over the next ten years. We can't wait to see what's next for Charli and her family!
