When I found out I was pregnant with my 3rd baby, I had just celebrated my one year CrossFit anniversary. Honestly, I was a little upset that I had come so far in my fitness journey just to lose all my progress. Yes I was still working out while pregnant (not consistently because ya know, morning sickness and whatnot), but it still wasn’t how I had pictured it. That’s when I knew I had to change my mindset. I already started to tell myself that I couldn’t push myself too hard while pregnant. Fast forward to having the baby, I was feeling great. So ready to get back in the gym and work on myself. That lasted all of 2 months before I realized how dang tired I was from having 3 kids under 5. I kept wondering when I would get my energy back. There were weeks where I only made it to the gym 2 days because of life. I didn’t like how I was feeling. Tired, moody, almost depressed. I knew something had to change.
First and foremost, I had to give myself grace. Daily. I couldn’t have high expectations for myself and that was okay. The only expectation I had was to be at the gym 3-4 days a week. I knew I had to make time for myself so I could be the best mom and wife I could be. I can’t stress enough how important it is to take care of yourself because in doing that, you’re able to take care of others better. I immediately started to feel like myself again. And much to my surprise, I felt stronger than ever! In that moment, I realized that I CAN reach my fitness goals and work on myself while also being an amazing wife and mother. I have to make a choice every day. Do I want to get up and fuel my body for success or do I want to lay around and make excuses? My youngest is 9 months old now and its still hard. But when I choose to work on myself, it really does help me be the best mom I can be.
